Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO)

LASCO provides free noncriminal legal help to low-income individuals, veterans, and seniors across 36 counties, including Franklin County. They assist with issues such as consumer problems, education, family law, health care,
housing, immigration, public benefits, reentry, seniors’ issues, tax resources, veterans’ affairs, and employment. You can apply for help online or by calling (888) 246-4420.

Franklin County Municipal Court Self Help Center

This free walk-in service assists individuals representing themselves in court without a lawyer. While staff cannot offer legal advice, they provide resources and information on court procedures, forms, and general guidance. The center is located at 375 S. High St., 16th Floor, Columbus, OH 43215, and operates Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Capital University Law School Legal Clinic

Staffed by law students under faculty supervision, this clinic offers free legal services in areas such as criminal law, divorce, domestic
violence, and landlord-tenant disputes. The clinic is located at 303 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (614) 236-6245.

Ohio Legal Help

This nonprofit organization provides plain language legal information, interactive self-help tools, and connections to local legal and community resources to assist
individuals in resolving their legal issues. information.

Columbus Metropolitan Library Legal Clinics

In partnership with local legal aid organizations, the library offers free legal advice sessions covering topics such as eviction/foreclosure, expungement/record sealing, disability, custody and visitation rights, and divorce. No registration is required. Check the Columbus Metropolitan Library events page for dates and times.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

HEAP is a federally funded initiative that provides eligible Ohioans with assistance on home energy bills. This one-time benefit is applied directly to your utility or bulk fuel bill. Eligibility is based on household income, with limits set at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines. For the 2024-2025 period, a single-person household can qualify with an annual income up to $26,355, while a two-person household can
earn up to $35,770. Applications can be submitted online or by calling (800) 282-0880.

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

The ACP was a federal initiative that offered discounts on internet services to eligible households. However, as of June 1, 2024, the program has ended due to a lack of additional funding from Congress. For updates or potential reauthorization, we will monitor the Federal Communications Commission’s announcements.

The Central Ohio Broadband Access

The Central Ohio Broadband Access Pilot Program aims to provide low-income K-12 students and their families with low-cost internet access. This includes offering refurbished computers and hotspot devices.

Ohio Business Development Center (OBDC)

OBDC offers Small Business Legal Aid™ clinics, providing expert legal advice tailored to small business needs. These clinics are held periodically, and registration is required.  Please note that eligibility requirements may apply, and it’s advisable to contact these organizations directly to confirm the services they offer and any necessary qualifications.
